Seek Learning

Shelby and I made a very special trip the other day. She made her very first visit to the library.

She loves to read. Every morning she will pull every single book off her book shelf and sit in the corner of the room and look through them. She definitely has favorites, but she's getting tired of the baby books. She wants books with real flimsy pages and real sentences. Board books don't cut it anymore. However the idea of buying 20 new books was out of the question because we're just a little bit poor. So I hoped that the magic library card would be at least one way to satisfy her mad quest for knowledge. After spending over 2 hours at the library, I figured I was right.

Shelby's recent learning craze has lit a tiny spark in me. As I sat there watching her race back and forth from the isles of books to the table, I was reminded of the importance of education. It almost made me miss being a college student ...almost. :) I realized that among the many things I try to get done in a day, I should always be setting aside time for the edification of Shelby's brain...and mine. The Lord reminds us that we are here to learn “of things both in heaven and in the earth, and under the earth; things which have been, things which are, things which must shortly come to pass; things which are at home, things which are abroad.”

I wonder if this means replacing The Biggest Loser with something a little more mind-nourishing. Sure it's entertaining and inspiring, but if it hasn't done it's job in getting us to the gym by now, it probably won't.

That photo sequence of her is just about perfect. Nice job. Side note: libraries scare me. Too many gosh dang books to weed through.
